The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two staff members of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, by gunmen on Monday evening. The victims were reportedly abducted from their residence in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state.

One of the victims, Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a faculty officer in the Faculty of Education and a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, was abducted around 7:00 p.m. on Monday at his house located on Supare-Akoko road, Akungba-Akoko

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Akure, saying, “Yes, two AAUA staff were abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.”

However, the police were able to rescue one of the abducted staff members. “Our men responded quickly and were able to rescue one of them,” Ayanlade stated.
