The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP for 2023, Peter Obi, has demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the deaths of soldiers in Abia, Abia State, during the sit-at-home directive.

Obi stated that when violence and terror rip the nation apart, Nigerians cannot remain silent.

IPOB announced a sit-at-home on Thursday in remembrance of those lost in the Biafra civil war.

In Aba, Abia State, five soldiers were slain by unidentified gunmen during the sit-at-home.

The event happened in the Obingwa Local Government Area at the Obikabia Junction checkpoint.

In response, Obi called the troops’ deaths heinous and a dastardly deed.

Posting on X, Obi wrote: “I am appalled and saddened by the attack on our brave soldiers in Abia State yesterday, resulting in the death of five soldiers.

“This dastardly act remains condemnable as it is a stark reminder of the escalating insecurity and violence that has continued to plague our nation under our collective watch.

“Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and we owe it to them to demand accountability and justice.

“I condemn this atrocity in strong terms, and demand an immediate and thorough investigation into this crime in order to identify and punish the culprits. We must not stand idly by while our nation is torn apart by violence and fear.”

The former governor of Anambra State promised to keep working for a brighter future.
