Kinder Foundation Transforms Pediatric Cancer Care with Historic Gift

Texas Children’s Hospital and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center have received a historic $150 million gift from the Kinder Foundation to establish the Kinder Children’s Cancer Center. This lead gift, one of the largest philanthropic investments in an American pediatric hospital, will unite the two institutions to create a comprehensive cancer center focused exclusively on children.

The new center, located on the Texas Medical Center (TMC) campus in Houston, will be the nation’s largest and most comprehensive cancer center for children. Scheduled to open in early 2026, the facility will feature inpatient beds, ambulatory care, and state-of-the-art research labs, connected to Texas Children’s Hospital via a sky bridge.

Rich Kinder, chair of the Kinder Foundation, emphasized the significance of the gift, saying, “Our philanthropic efforts center on supporting transformational projects in Houston, and this initiative exemplifies that mission in every way.”

Texas Children’s president and CEO Debra F. Sukin added, “This historic gift is a testament to the vision and future impact of our groundbreaking collaboration with UT MD Anderson and our shared mission of eradicating pediatric cancer.”

UT MD Anderson president Peter WT Pisters highlighted the center’s potential, stating, “Kinder Children’s Cancer Center will become a global destination for comprehensive childhood cancer care and survivorship, transforming how children and their families experience diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.
