According to activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju, Minister Nyesom Wike cannot choose who would represent the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a senator in 2027; only inhabitants of the FCT have that authority.

Wike cannot make decisions for the people, according to Adeyanju, because the Federal Capital Territory is not Rivers State, where votes are cast with firearms.

The attorney’s remarks coincide with Wike’s argument with Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike solely prioritised infrastructure developments, according to Kingibe, which had less of an effect on the people living in the Federal Capital.

She said the minister ignored the needs of the people living in the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike retaliated by threatening to prevent Kingibe from returning to the Senate come 2027.

Reacting, the activist lawyer informed Wike that the Federal Capital has the power to overthrow sitting presidents.

Making a post on X, Adeyanju wrote: “Only the people of FCT can decide who becomes Senator in 2027, not Wike. The arrogance of power is what will make Wike think he can decide for the people.

“FCT is not Rivers, where people write results and shoot guns. Even incumbent presidents get defeated in the FCT.

“I know these folks have 100% control of INEC and other rigging mechanisms, but the arrogance is truly uncalled for.

“Nigerian politicians are like power drunk Nigerian celebrities and pastors who can boast openly about getting the police to lock you up, and they will eventually do it.”
