Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has stated that he will continue to run on the party’s platform.
In a seven-minute video that went viral on social media on Saturday, Obi made the announcement while speaking to supporters.
When asked which party he plans to run for office in 2027, Obi responded, “I will still continue to run in the Labour Party. I’m a member of the Labour Party.”
The Nigerian government was also held accountable by the former governor of Anambra State for the political party crisis.
He said: “What is happening in the Labour Party and the PDP is caused by the government, quote me anywhere.
“We had a problem in our party before, in the past. Yar’Adua was the President. I went to him then; he called the INEC chairman (Prof. Maurice Iwu) and told him I don’t want any problem in any party. We were forced to fix it.
“But today, in all the parties, there are problems; these are deliberate problems caused by the system. These are some of the things I want to clean up if I have the opportunity.
“Parties will function very well because you can’t have a system working without a strong opposition.”
According to the former governor of Anambra State, it is the duty of Nigerians to guarantee free and fair elections.
Obi’s role in the creation of an opposition alliance coincides with this.
Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar are attempting to form an opposition alliance.
The coalition’s main goal will be to prevent President Bola Tinubu from winning reelection in 2027.
Confirming a recent meeting, El-Rufai claimed the coalition when presented will restore Tinubu back to Lagos in 2027.
