Veteran Nigerian actor and comedian, Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, has opened up about the reasons behind his delayed entry into marriage.
In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the actor and lecturer at the Lagos State University of Education reflected on his personal journey, revealing that he tied the knot at the age of 40.
Discussing the factors that contributed to the delay, Saka attributed it to a lack of self-assurance and financial instability during the early stages of his career.
“I don’t have confidence. I’m a very reserved person. I got married late because of two things, which is, myself and my profession. As at then, there was no money in theatre arts and nobody recognised artistes. We were just doing it for passion. And the worst part of it then is that we were only taught acting and not how to make money from theatre.
“I had nothing, not even a car when I finished. Obviously, when you call a girl, they would look at you like there was no future for you. In fact, a lady told me I’m wasting my life, and advised me to leave theatre and for something relevant.
“The woman I was supposed to marry, said I must have two cars before I can marry her. Then something told me that this is not my wife”.
Despite the early struggles, he eventually found his life partner, Olaide Oyetoro, and the couple got married in 2003. They now have three children together.
