Stephanie Michael, 27, is in hot water in Lagos State after reportedly breaking into a man’s home to woo him. The man became alarmed and accused her of having criminal intent.
Stephanie Michael, the suspect, was taken into custody and charged under the state’s criminal laws for actions that were likely to violate public peace, according to ZINGTIE.
According to reports, she attempted to enter the home without Bright Azuonwu, the owner,’s permission in Odofin Close Oke-Afa Estate in Ejigbo, Lagos State.
Although the police believe the suspect’s motivation was dubious, she asserted that she attempted to approach the complaint in an attempt to woo him before he became alarmed.
But before being taken into custody and held at the station to be questioned about her actions, the complainant maintained that she had a criminal purpose and had been in touch with the Ejigbo Division police.
She arrived with a knife and lighter, and the police found out during questioning that she had feigned to be sleeping at the bush bar.
She was charged with the alleged offence before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court after the police determined that she was guilty.
The charge read: “That you, Stephanie Michael ‘f’ on the 8th day of December, 2024, at about 2300hrs, at Odofin Close Oke-Afa Estate, Ejigbo Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by entering the compound of one Bright Azuonwu ‘m’ of the above address with a knife and lighter and pretended sleeping at the bush bar and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 (D) of the criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.”
She did, however, enter a not guilty plea.
In order to allow the police to establish that she truly committed the claimed violation, the prosecution, Inspector Simeon Njue, requested that the court set a hearing date because she entered a not guilty plea.
Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, the presiding magistrate, gave her N50,000 bail with a corresponding sum for a surety, who will have to provide proof of income and tax payments while the court verifies her address.
While the defendant was remanded in detention at the correctional facility in Kirikiri town, Lagos, until she would fulfil her bail requirements, the case was postponed until January 17, 2025.
