Shortly after turning down a marriage proposal from the man who paid for her university education, a young woman in Nwoya is said to have had an unexpected mental health crisis.

Local reports state that the man had helped her with her education by paying for her basic necessities, housing, and tuition in the hopes that their relationship would eventually result in marriage. Despite not being codified, their relationship raised expectations that eventually caused conflict.

According to locals, the woman turned down his proposal after graduating, stating that she wanted to pursue her own objectives before getting married. However, it is said that the man publicly complained about how he had invested in her future because he felt deceived.

The young woman was under emotional strain as their argument spread throughout the community. She had been clearly under stress in the days preceding the incident, according to those close to her.

Shortly as the argument got more heated, witnesses say she started acting confused and disoriented. Concerned neighbors and family members stepped in to get her medical attention.

Health professionals warn that abrupt behavioral changes like these might be caused by emotional trauma, extreme stress, or untreated mental health disorders, despite community rumors swiftly labeling the situation as her “running mad.”
