According to Fouad Oki, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), it was in the state’s best interests to remove Mudashiru Obasa from his position as speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
He claims that President Bola Tinubu witnessed the Speaker’s purportedly unthinkable actions while attempting to resolve the internal conflict.
According to ZINGTIE, lawmakers impeached Obasa on Monday owing to fraud charges, a decision Oki said was long overdue.
Later, the members clarified that Obasa’s impeachment was necessary to preserve Lagos State’s and the House of Assembly’s sanctity and integrity.
Hours after the Speaker’s impeachment, Oki stated on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday that President Bola Tinubu attempted to resolve the crisis in the state legislature.
“Before the president came home, this issue had been lingering.
“In the wisdom of members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, the president’s attention was called.
“The president, as father and leader, called a meeting wherein he tried to make a sense out of the observations raised by elders of the party.
“Unfortunately, the president saw by himself a recalcitrant [Obasa]. I think that is what broke the camel’s back,” Oki said.
