The Most Rev. Isaac Ayo Olawuyi, the Archbishop of the Methodist Church Nigeria Lagos, has advocated for the election of a Muslim governor for Lagos State in 2027.

By then, he noted, Christians will have served as governor for 12 years in a row.

This declaration was given at the 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Service of the Lagos House of Assembly, which has as its topic “The Voice of Mercy.”

Eromosele Ebhomele, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa’s chief press secretary, issued a statement in which the Archbishop underlined the importance of religious tolerance and said that it is time to let a Muslim rule Lagos.

He emphasised that both Christians, Akinwunmi Ambode and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will have served out their 12-year tenure, with Ambode serving just one term from 2015 to 2019 after a fallout with his political mentor and Sanwo-Olu completing his maximum of eight years.

The Archbishop stated, “It would be 12 years in 2027 that we have been in the system together, and we have had Christians as governors. Now, it’s time to give our Muslim brothers a chance to govern us in Lagos State.”

ZINGTIE recalls that Babatunde Fashola and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, both Muslims, were Lagos State’s governors from 1999 to 2015.
