About 30 members of the Lagos State House of Assembly stormed the Department of State Security office in the Magodo area of the state on Thursday.
Their visit was reportedly connected to the detention of two colleagues, Hon. Lanre Afinni and Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu, who were invited for questioning on Wednesday regarding state assembly issues.
One of the detained lawmakers has been released, while the other remains in DSS custody. The lawmakers who visited the DSS office included Hon. Abiodun Tobun (Epe constituency), Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa constituency 2), Hon. Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho constituency 2), and Hon. Solomon Bonu (Badagry constituency 1), among others.
After six hours of questioning, the 30 visiting lawmakers were released. However, they declined to comment on the matter after their release.
The DSS invitation is believed to be related to the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on January 13, following allegations of financial misconduct and other issues.
Obasa had written a petition to the DSS regarding the process of his removal. The lawmakers have stated that they will address the issue at the appropriate time.
