The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Misturah Bada, a 26-year-old housewife, and Adedamola Daniel, 30, for allegedly fabricating the lady’s kidnapping in order to extort N2.5 million from her husband, who lives in South Africa.

The arrest came after investigations on a kidnapping report received by the Command on November 24, 2025.

SP Abimbola Adebisi, a police spokesperson, said the woman’s husband called the police on an emergency line, alleging that his wife had been kidnapped by armed men who demanded a ransom of N10 million before lowering it to N3 million.

According to the police, despite offering N2.5 million, the alleged kidnappers refused to release the victim, causing the Command to intensify its investigations.

Adebisi added that the police used both technical and human resources before releasing Mrs. Bada and reuniting her with her family. During questioning, she stated she was kidnapped by six armed guys in a silver Toyota Venza, driven to an unknown place, and stripped of her iPhone 12 Pro Max.

She also informed investigators that the ransom paid by her husband was sent to her bank account before being handed over to the kidnappers.

However, authorities stated that contradictions in her narrative sparked suspicion. On December 3, 2025, operatives apprehended Adedamola Daniel in Ede, Osun State. A SIM card linked to the WhatsApp account used for ransom discussions was found on him.

According to investigators, Daniel acknowledged that Mrs. Bada asked him to give a SIM card to open the WhatsApp account used to connect with the husband, and that he shared the one-time password delivered to his line, allowing her to operate the account.

“After being confronted with the findings, Mrs. Bada admitted that she faked her own kidnapping in order to extort money from her husband,” the police said.

Further investigations resulted in the recovery of the previously reported stolen iPhone 12 Pro Max. The phone was retrieved from Yusuf Sodiq, 34, who claimed police he bought it from Mrs. Bada for N380,000 and was cautioned not to put any SIM cards in it.

In response to the event, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, warned the public against false complaints and criminal trickery, pointing out that such activities distract security resources away from actual emergencies.

The police added that investigations are underway and that once completed, the accused will be charged in court.
