Barcelona are preparing to award rising star Lamine Yamal the iconic No. 10 jersey, famously worn by Lionel Messi, as part of plans to secure his long-term future at the club.
This development comes after the 17-year-old agreed to sign a new contract with the reigning LaLiga champions.
Yamal has been one of the standout performers across Europe’s top leagues this season and is considered a serious Ballon d’Or contender, especially after playing a key role in Spain’s triumph at the Euros last year.
As reported by Mail Sport, Barcelona view Yamal as their most promising talent since Messi emerged nearly two decades ago.
He is expected to mark his 18th birthday in July by officially signing a new extended deal that includes a staggering €1 billion release clause.
The new agreement will also see him inherit the No. 10 shirt, currently worn by Ansu Fati. With Fati’s future at the club still uncertain, the jersey will be passed on to Yamal, who has worn the No. 19 shirt throughout this season.
