Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, prevented defender Eric García from leaving the club during the January transfer window.

This was revealed by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in a tweet on Wednesday.

Romano explained that García was on the verge of finalizing a move to Serie A side Como for a €7 million fee, with add-ons included. However, Flick intervened and blocked the transfer, citing García’s importance to the club’s plans.

“Hansi Flick blocked Eric García’s exit in January as he considers him an important player for Barça’s plans,” Romano tweeted. “The deal with Como was almost done for a €7m fee plus add-ons, but was then called off as Flick insisted on keeping Eric.”

García, who joined Barcelona from Premier League champions Manchester City in 2021, had also spent time on loan at Girona.

The 24-year-old defender recently scored a goal in Barcelona’s 4-1 victory over Sevilla in La Liga last weekend.
