After their landlord, Alhaja Elusehinde, and her son, Kazeem, together with two daughters, allegedly beat the tenant’s wife, Mrs. Joy Johnson, and evicted them from their two-bedroom apartment, doctors at the General Hospital in Isolo, Lagos State, are fighting to save her life.
The incident occurred on April 19, 2025, at Elusehinde Street in the Ijedodo neighborhood of Lagos, where the victim’s husband, Mr. John Johnson, resides with his family, according to ZINGTIE.
The family had been homeless for the last two weeks after attackers knocked down the door and threw their belongings out of the apartment. According to reports, the couple had been residing inside a church after fleeing the house with their children.
Alhaja, the landlady, and the three kids have been taken into custody by the Isheri Oshun Division police. They were given administrative bail as they awaited word on Mrs. Joy’s alleged precarious situation.
Accordinng to the embattled Mrs Johnsons, when they paid the landlady their monthly power bill of N10,000, their light was disconnected, which is when the problems began. They waited for her to return the light, which she eventually did, she explained, because only the landlady had access and was aware of their monthly cost.
She described how the landlady unplugged their apartment once the light was restored. Then, begging her to reconnect, she went to ask her what had occurred, but she walked her out of her apartment.
The landlady summoned her two children to attack her after they had a verbal altercation outside regarding the breakup. After they abused her until she lost consciousness, she was taken to a private hospital and then sent to the General Hospital.
The landlady brought funds for the victim’s treatment at the private hospital after realizing that the victim might pass away during the procedure. But the victim’s condition became worse and the Police referred her to the General Hospital.
Alhaja Elusehinde acknowledged that they had a fight with her, nevertheless, and that it started when the Ikeja Electricity Distribution business disconnected the electricity supply due to an unpaid bill before Mr. Johnson, the renter, rented the property.
She stated that the tenants including Mr. Johnson paid their power payment for the month yet the electricity company removed their light and took their wire to their office stating that they were due over N1m of accumulated bill.
The landlady clarified that after making certain payments, she worked hard and returned the wire. After the light was restored, she turned off the renters’ lights so they could reimburse her for some of the money she had spent on it beforehand.
When his sisters called to tell him that Mrs. Joy had beaten their mother, Kazeem, the son, said that he had actually taken out the door and thrown some of their belongings outside out of rage.
Since they promised to do nothing since they knew the police hierarchy and had contacts, the tenant, Mr. Johnson, has screamed out for assistance and justice.
He clarified that rain had ruined his belongings that the suspects had tossed outside and that he and his family had been sleeping inside the church ever since the event.
While the investigation into the alleged offenses, which carry a potential sentence of several years in jail, is ongoing, the police have instructed the suspects to fix the damaged door and vacate the complainant’s property.
