LP crisis: Abure is an impostor – Nenadi Usman

Nenadi Usman, the chairman of the Labour Party’s National Caretaker Committee (LP), has called Julius Abure, the party’s former national chairman, a “impostor.”

Usman said this during a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

Abure has been given 48 hours by the LP National Caretaker Committee, which is led by Usman, to cease “parading” himself as the party’s head.

She suggested that Abure spend his time addressing the numerous accusations of corruption and forgeries made against him rather than disparaging the Labour Party and its leaders.

Abure faces disciplinary action if he keeps working against the party’s interests, the NCC warned.

It established a disciplinary committee to look into claims of corruption and official abuse made against Abure while he was the party’s national chairman and to suggest suitable sanctions within 21 days.

Senator Ireti Kingibe is reportedly the chair of the committee.

Days prior to the Usman-led NCC’s decision, the LP’s Abure-led National Working body, or NWC, established its own disciplinary body to look into claims of anti-party activity by the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, and the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, Mr Peter Obi.

With each faction asserting that it gained control of the party as a result of the Supreme Court’s April 4 ruling, the development shows that the LP’s factional crisis is far from resolved.

The NCC maintains that his tenure has long since ended, as the court “expressly” indicated, while the Abure-led NWC claims the supreme court has recognized its leadership.
