LP describes high ranking defectors as ingrates

In Cross River State, the Labour Party (LP) has expressed relief over several members quitting the party.

They specifically characterized Daniel Asuquo, a former member who represented Akamkpa/Biase federal district, and Ekpenyong Akiba, a current member of the House of Representatives who represents Odukpani/Calabar Municipal Federal district, as being extremely unappreciative of the party.

In a statement, LP state chairman Patriarch Ogar Osim wished the defectors luck in their political endeavors and went on to characterize their departure as a blessing in disguise.

He claimed that while attending the party, Daniel Asuquo and Ekpenyong Akiba were both like the legendary Jonah in the boat.

“We regret that these officers have been so ungrateful to the party that gave them the platform on a platter of gold to campaign for their electoral victories at the polls,” he said.

Osim recalled how he was under intense pressure to choose someone else from Odukpani LGA to succeed Akiba, but he refused, saying that Akiba was able to be elected to the National Assembly as a result of his persistence.

“I have done my part to assist him get to where he is today, I am happy I did it for him. Appreciating people is not necessarily out of abundance but it is a virtue,” he said.

He urged all party loyalists to continue being responsible and courteous state citizens.

He advised LP supporters to support the government’s admirable goals rather than provoking it.

Additionally, the opposition party named two women, Mrs. Myra Benson and Mrs. Abigail Ekeng, as the chairmen of the Calabar South LGA chapter and the Calabar Municipality branch, respectively.

They also named Mrs. Mary Okon as the new State Women Leader as part of the reorganization that followed the defections.
