Major reason why Tinubu orders reopening of land, air borders with Niger Republic revealed

Reopening Nigeria’s land and air borders with the Republic of Niger has been ordered by President Bola Tinubu.

Additionally, he ordered the immediate lifting of additional sanctions imposed on the country.

The directive was in compliance with the decisions made by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at its Extraordinary Summit on February 24, 2024, in Abuja, according to a statement made by the President’s media adviser, Ajuri Ngelale.

Recall that the presidents of the ECOWAS decided to remove the economic sanctions imposed on Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali, and the Republic of Niger.

Additionally, Tinubu reversed the ban on all service transactions, including the sale of power and utility services to the Niger Republic, as well as the suspension of all commercial and financial exchanges between Nigeria and Niger.

Additionally, the President issued an order to relieve the Republic of Niger’s asset freeze on the central banks of the ECOWAS.

“Travel bans on government officials and their family members also stand lifted,” the statement added.

Moreover, the Republic of Guinea received the gesture of lifting economic and financial sanctions.
