Yayu Musa, a young man, is accused of killing a 50-year-old widow who forbade him from marrying her daughter.
On Friday, July 25, the suspect reportedly killed the woman in the Olla hamlet of the Omala Local Government Area.
According to the police, Musa pretended that robbers were stealing palm fruits when he enticed the woman to her farm at around 8:00 p.m. He allegedly attacked her and cut her throat with a knife when she got there.
After arriving at the site, detectives took down the suspect and recorded the evidence. He is now being held.
However, in accordance with cultural and religious customs, the victim’s family chose to bury him right away rather than have an autopsy performed.
As tensions rise, the Kogi State Police Command has sent security patrols to the area to stop retaliatory attacks.
A family source, Lawal Abdulazeez Muhammad, stated that Musa committed the crime because the woman forbade him from marrying her daughter, while the motivation is still being looked into.
