Authorities reported that on Wednesday, while his stepmother was trying to hug him during a high school graduation ceremony, a guy from New Mexico, USA, shot her.
Christian Bencomo, a 21-year-old guy, is being held without being allowed to post bail.
The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) stated it received a call regarding gunshots at the Albuquerque Convention Centre at approximately five o’clock in the evening, according to Fox News.
Authorities noted in the report that the mother was there for her son’s graduation from Southwest Secondary Learning Centre.
Her stepson arrived, and “as she started to hug him, he produced a handgun and shot her in the neck,” police said.
Gilbert Gallegos, the director of APD communications, informed the reporters present that there was a lot of chaos at the time.
The woman was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, according to Gallegos, who also stated that there were more than 100 attendees at the charter school graduation ceremony at the time.
According to the APD, Bencomo was detained by onlookers until the police came.
Bencomo has been charged with unauthorised carrying of a firearm, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, aggravated violence with intent to cause grave bodily damage to a family member, and preventative detention, according to jail records at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Centre.
