Malam Danjuma, commonly known as “Black,” 60, his 35-year-old son Ibrahim, and 35-year-old Aminu Gaye died in a pit latrine while attempting to retrieve a cell phone.
The event was confirmed on Sunday by Saminu Abdullahi, the public relations officer for the Kano State Fire Service.
At roughly 11:00 a.m., he added, the Tsanyawa Fire Station called the agency to report that four men were trapped within a pit latrine.
He said Danjuma became stuck while attempting to recover a phone that had fallen into the pit toilet. Then, in an attempt to save his father, his son went into the pit toilet and became imprisoned as well.
“Gaye and Alasan also entered to rescue both men, but they also got trapped,” he said.
According to Abdullahi, the fourth person was saved alive, whereas the first three were saved while unconscious.
He said all the victims were turned over to Tsanyawa Police Division Superintendent of Police Iro Lado.
Abdullahi added that the victims were taken by the police to Bichi Special Hospital for medical care, where the attending physicians pronounced three of them dead and one alive.
