The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has unveiled “Be Well Beaumont,” a comprehensive community health initiative backed by a $10 million grant from ExxonMobil. This 10-year program aims to promote wellness and reduce cancer risk among east Texas community members by providing cancer prevention education and essential tools.

The initiative will comprise programs focused on daily healthy living practices, including:

– Healthy eating workshops and nutrition counseling

– Active living programs, such as fitness classes and outdoor activities

– Sun safety education and skin cancer screenings

– Tobacco-free living support groups and cessation resources

– Preventative care services, including cancer screenings and health checks

MD Anderson President Peter WT Pisters emphasized the significance of cancer prevention, stating, “Cancer prevention is a cornerstone of our mission to end cancer.” He expressed gratitude for ExxonMobil’s ongoing support, saying, “We are grateful for ExxonMobil’s continued support to implement life-changing programs in communities like Beaumont and Baytown, where we can directly impact cancer risk reduction and provide tangible differences for countless families.”

By investing in the health and wellbeing of east Texas communities, MD Anderson and ExxonMobil aim to create a lasting impact and improve the lives of thousands of individuals and families.
