A medical practitioner who has been in practice for at least 10 years apparently does not hold the qualifications necessary by the profession.
The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) asserts that Peter Matthew George lacks a medical degree.
He has been practicing medicine for the previous ten years without the necessary credentials, according to the authority.
According to reports, Peter Matthew George did not attend the schools he claimed to have attended during an LMDC certification assessment.
Peter Matthew George claimed to have attended the University of Hertfordshire, but the LMDC stated that it did not believe that.
It said the University of Hertfordshire does not currently offer medicine as a course, and never did as of the time George said he attended the school.
The school told the BBC: “Following a thorough review of our academic records, we can confirm that there is no evidence that this individual was ever awarded any degree by the University nor studied here. Any claim to the contrary is therefore false and constitutes a misrepresentation of our institution. We are cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities in Liberia and will continue to support any investigations as required.”
On his LinkedIn page, which has been taken down, the controversial Dr George declared he had studied for a “professional doctorate in medicine MD, general medicine” at Hertfordshire between 2010 and 2014. Only in 2026 will the University of Hertfordshire begin to offer medical courses.
However, the doctor denied attending the University of Hertfordshire in an interview with the BBC, stating that he must have been under pressure when he posted it on LinkedIn. He mentioned that the University of Central Nicaragua is where he earned his primary medical degree.
He told the BBC: “I never told anyone so. Those are make-up stories. I have served the Liberian health sector diligently for over a decade with no record of misconduct.”
Dr George believes that he has been punished for fighting for greater welfare for medical doctors in Liberia.
According to the LMDA, Dr. George’s practicing license was revoked because he failed to react to the accusations and provide proof of his medical degree within the allotted 15 days.
A man said that the woman required a blood transfusion but the doctor refused to provide one, and he shared the incident on Facebook.
The distressed guy claimed that the doctor blamed her unwillingness to do a blood transfusion on her religious convictions.
