A recent incident in southern Texas has raised concerns, as US Border Patrol agents were fired upon by suspected Mexican cartel members during an attempted illegal border crossing amidst increased deportation efforts.
This incident occurred while US President Donald Trump has been actively addressing immigration issues, declaring a national emergency at the Mexico border and deploying military personnel to several crossings to facilitate the deportation of potentially millions of undocumented immigrants.
“Border Patrol agents near Fronton, [Texas] were fired upon from [Mexico] by suspected cartel gunmen as a group of illegal aliens were being brought across the river,”Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin reported on Monday afternoon, citing multiple law enforcement sources.
“I’m told [Border Patrol] returned fire, nobody hit on either side, and that the illegal aliens did not make it across,”Melugin added.
