Two significant factions within the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, marking yet another significant political realignment.

The departure of Hon. Faruq Abdulrazak Musa, a previous NNPP chairmanship candidate for Tudun Wada Local Government Area, and the Kwankwasiyya Scholars, led by Hon. Ahmad Yusuf Maidoki, signaled the wave of defections.

During a Friday courtesy call to Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President, at his Abuja home, both groups made their defection announcement.

The decampees openly embraced the APC and its goals for Kano and Nigeria in general by throwing away the recognizable red caps connected to the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

The people-focused governance and development agenda of the APC were mentioned by the defectors as the main justifications for their decision, according to Senator Barau.

“They thrashed the red cap, the symbol of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, and embraced the People’s Party, APC, citing our commitment to developing our people and state,” he stated.

The Deputy Senate President underlined that the APC’s many people-oriented policies, initiatives, and inclusive political culture are directly responsible for the ongoing flight from the NNPP.

“APC is big enough to accommodate all. You will be treated fairly and equally like other members of the party,” he assured the new members.

Barau added that although the NNPP used to have a lot of sway in Kano, these days it mostly only exists in certain areas of the Kano Central Senatorial District.

He went on to say that the party has no significant presence in Kano North and that more of its important leaders are getting ready to join the APC in Kano South.
