MTN Nigeria has increased its call rate on the pulse bundle to N13.8 per minute, up from N7.8 per minute, representing a 76.92% increase. This change is part of the ongoing tariff hike and restructuring in the telecommunications industry.

Prior to the increase, the call rate was 13k/second, and SMS cost N4. However, a message sent to customers after the change revealed the new rate of 23k/second and N6/SMS. This translates to N13.8 per minute.

The increase is in line with the Federal Government’s approval of a 50% tariff hike on January 20, 2025. The new rates include a floor price of N9.6 per minute for calls, up from N6.40, and a ceiling price of N50. The cost of SMS has also increased to N6 from N4, and the cost of 1GB of data has risen to N431.25 from N287.5.

In a related development, MTN Nigeria apologised to its customers for a sudden 200% increase in the price of its 15GB weekly digital bundle. The company acknowledged customer dissatisfaction and admitted that the change was unexpected.

“We know how upsetting it must have been to suddenly wake up to a 200% increase on your favourite digital bundle,” MTN said in a message to customers. “We could share several reasons and provide explanations, but omo, all that one na story.

“We don’t cast. We get it and admit it. Let’s just say na mistake. In this love season, don’t stay angry with us. Please forgive and forget. You matter die, and we will never stop showing you how much. Let’s continue our relationship. Thank you for your understanding.”

Meanwhile, MTN Nigeria has launched a new campaign tagged “Go Make a Difference (Go M.A.D.)” in Abuja. The campaign aims to inspire residents to take bold steps towards meaningful change.

Speaking on the initiative, Senior Manager Sales and Trade Development North, MTN Nigeria, Ohwofasa Obazenu, said: “Go M.A.D. is a movement that empowers Nigerians to act. Whether in business, education, or social impact, we want people to know that their bold steps can create a ripple effect of change.”
