In response to a recent decline in customers, MultiChoice, the parent firm of DStv and GOtv pay television in Nigeria, has denied cutting its subscription fees.
This was reported BusinessDay on Tuesday, citing an insider in the organisation.
According to the source, the corporation simply lowered decoder costs; subscription costs were left unaltered.
“We only reduced our decoder prices and not subscription prices.
Recall that MultiChoice Nigeria is presently embroiled in a court battle to overturn an order from the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) requiring it to provide free subscription services for a month and fining it N150 million.
This occurs concurrently with the company’s announcement that its Nigerian subscriber base fell by 18% in the first quarter of 2024.

The corporation has increased its subscription fee four times since March 2022. The most recent being a 17% increase in subscription costs in April 2024.
