Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State, has stated that he is not in a rush to take back his position. Fubara made this statement during the Rivers Elders Forum’s Sunday, May 11 liturgy of songs honoring the late elder statesman Edwin Clark in the state capital of Port Harcourt.
The troubled governor reacted to a number of speakers who called him “Governor,” vehemently denounced his suspension, and demanded that it be immediately lifted.
Fubara, however, disassociated himself from their comments, characterizing them as subjective views.
Such remarks, he said, were unlikely to foster peace.
He warned, “Not everything is by oshogbe,” implying that he would rather handle the current political situation in a more calculated and non-aggressive manner.
“Do you even know if I want to go back there? My spirit has already left there,” he said
Fubara also cautioned that, despite their good intentions, some of his followers’ activities had made matters worse for him.
Instead of making it about politics, he asked the guests to concentrate on the honor of Edwin Clark, who dedicated his life to fighting for the Niger Delta.
Due to a political dispute between himself and his godfather, former state governor Nyesom Wike, President Tinubu suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy, and every member of the State House of Assembly for six months on March 18.
