Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, batch number 81832M 08, made in Germany, is being recalled by order of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, or NAFDAC.

The soap contains Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), often referred to as Lilial, a dangerous chemical impurity that is prohibited in cosmetic products due to possible health hazards, according to a statement released by NAFDAC on its website.

The FDA clarified that the chemical, which is frequently included in perfumes, may cause skin sensitisation and allergic reactions in addition to being connected to reproductive harm, including hazards to unborn infants.

“The presence of Butylphenyl Methylpropional in the product violates the Cosmetic Products Regulation, as it poses serious health concerns, BMHCA is prohibited in cosmetic products due to its potential to cause reproductive harm and skin sensitisation. It has been banned in several countries, including across the EU,” they said.

Additionally, NAFDAC noted that a number of Dove cosmetic items, including Derma Spa Goodness and Men Care, as well as this specific batch of Dove soap had been recalled or banned in various countries for the same reason.

The agency emphasised that the products are not included in its database and restated the prohibition on soap imports into Nigeria.

Additionally, NAFDAC recommended customers who had already bought the soap to stop using it right once and return any leftover supplies to the NAFDAC office that was closest to them.
