Nigerians have called for an investigation into the alleged child sexual abuse at singer Simi’s mother’s daycare centre, and the Federal Government has responded to these calls.
This followed the emergence of Simi’s old posts on X on social media in the wake of a rape allegation made by a TikTok user named Mirabel.
The singer expressed worries about the increasing prevalence of sexual assault in the country.
She noted that nearly every woman she knows is a victim of sexual assault and suggested that rapists should be castrated.
Her post led to an online discussion between her and others who held opposing views.
In the midst of the controversy, some of the singer’s old tweets about her experiences with children at her mother’s daycare resurfaced online, with users claiming they suggested inappropriate intent.
In response to the call from netizens, the Nigerian government, via the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), guaranteed its dedication to investigating all credible allegations of child sexual abuse and misconduct.
In a post on its official X account, NAPTIP urged anyone with concrete information or victims to contact them confidentially.
“If you have factual information, evidence, or were directly affected, please reach out confidentially via DM or email info@naptip.gov.ng.”
