Socio-political advocate Aisha Yesufu has pledged her support for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, as the senator prepares to return to her legislative duties on Tuesday, despite resistance from the Senate.

Yesufu made her position known on Monday during her appearance on Sunrise Daily, a current affairs program aired on Channels Television.

She emphasized that she, along with others, would accompany Akpoti-Uduaghan to the National Assembly, asserting that the lawmaker has the legal authority to resume her role, citing a court decision in her favor.

“I think Senator Natasha has every right to resume office, and by tomorrow, she is not going to resume alone. There are people who are going to go with her, and I’ll be one of them.

“We’ll be with her and stand with her. And if the Senate decides they are going to kill us, let them kill us,” she said.

Yesufu criticized what she sees as entrenched bias against women in Nigeria’s political environment.

She argued that the Senate’s decision to suspend Natasha was unlawful and condemned the chamber for ignoring a judicial ruling on the matter.

“There was a ruling telling them to halt the suspension process, but they didn’t obey. The Senate is sending a message to Nigerians that it can act with impunity and disregard court rulings.

Senator Natasha had previously stated her intention to return to the Senate on Tuesday, in defiance of Senate leadership, which had earlier issued a firm warning instructing her to stay away from legislative sessions for the time being.
