A call for calm has emerged amidst the controversy surrounding Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Chief Ayirimi Emami, a leader of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, has urged restraint from both parties involved.
The situation began when Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged on Arise TV’s Morning Show that she was being victimized by the Senate President after rejecting his sexual advances. This claim has sparked intense reactions, with many Nigerians weighing in on the matter.
In response to the escalating tensions, Chief Emami issued a statement on Saturday, calling for an immediate ceasefire from both federal lawmakers. He emphasized that the enemies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are attempting to capitalize on the situation and create a distraction for Nigerians.
Emami’s plea for restraint aims to diffuse the tension and prevent further escalation of the controversy. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the parties involved will respond to Emami’s call for calm.
He noted that “the avoidable media war, took the minds of majority of Nigerians off the critical issue of the N54.99 trillion 2025 budget President Tinubu signed into law Friday February 28”.
Emami maintained that “rather than focusing on the nitty gritty of the 2025 budget and how it would accelerate the palpable progress being made in the country, many Nigerians are exerting their energies on the disagreement between the two distinguished senators”.
While stressing the importance of upholding the Senate’s integrity, he subtly suggested that APC leaders in the South-South, “as family, are making efforts to resolve the misunderstanding between the Distinguished Senate President, Goodswill Akpabio and our sister-in-law, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan”.
“I want to use this medium to appeal to both parties to embrace peace, for the interest of the nation.
“By the grace of God and the wisdom of our good ancestors, the issues will be resolved soon.”
