The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated a 300 kV transformer and ancillary electrification facilities to the Nigerian Army 16 Brigade in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The donation was made to strengthen the security infrastructure of oil-bearing communities in the region.
According to Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, NDDC Managing Director, the commission received a request from the 16 Brigade to assist in strengthening security infrastructure in the region. “NDDC, being an interventionist agency, received a request from the 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army… to assist in strengthening the security of the infrastructure of oil-producing areas in the Niger Delta region,” Ogbuku said.
The NDDC has also made other interventions to the 16 Brigade, including the installation and stringing of high-tension and low-tension prestressed concrete poles and the completion of 500-watt street lights. Ogbuku noted that the commission’s contributions would improve general efficiency and the fight against insecurity in the region.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oloyede, commended the NDDC for its consistent support of the Nigerian Army. “As you can see, the Niger Delta Development Commission executed most of the projects being commissioned. I want to applaud the NDDC for what it has been doing for the Nigerian Army and the region,” Oloyede said
