The 5,937 troops who just graduated from Depot NA will be sent to battle banditry, livestock rustling, and associated crimes in various parts of the nation, according to Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

Speaking on Saturday at the Depot Nigeria Army’s 86 Regular Recruit intake passing out parade in Zaria, Lagbaja—the parade’s reviewing officer and special guest of honor—explained that the recruits would contribute to the nation’s efforts to address its many security issues.

He said that the distribution of fresh goods would contribute to the fight against livestock rustling and banditry in the northwest and insurgency in the northeast.

He said: “They will fight the farmers-herders clashes in the North-Central, secessionist agitation and cultism in the South-East, militancy and vandalism of critical national assets and infrastructure in the South-South and South-West.”

According to Lagbaja, who held the opinion that military training is an ongoing process, the Nigerian Army has implemented post-Depot training programs to assist its soldiers in becoming proficient with a variety of weaponry and gear and to improve their effectiveness in combat.

According to Lagbaja, the Army is enhancing the current welfare benefits to help soldiers take care of their medical, recreational, and educational needs, which would facilitate the fulfillment of their careers. Congratulating the 5,937 enlistees, he stated that being a soldier means making sacrifices for one’s country and sticking up for what one believes in.

He explained: “Sacrifice to go wherever you are ordered to, by land, sea or air; sacrifice to relegate personal comfort and assume duty to country as a primary concern.”

He reminded them that enlisting in the military represented the highest calling to duty that a Nigerian could undertake. He also said that by becoming soldiers, they had chosen to join an exclusive group of extraordinary Nigerians who had decided to uphold the standards of exceptional discipline, loyalty, integrity, and duty dedication.

Lagbaja tasked them with upholding the nation’s expectations of them and the Nigerian Army.
