New York Helicopter Tours, the operator of the aircraft that crashed into the Hudson River in New York last week, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, is ceasing operations effective immediately.

This was confirmed through a statement issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Sunday evening.

According to the FAA, the company is “shutting down their operations immediately,” as shared in a post on X.

The statement also mentioned that a thorough review of the company’s certifications and safety history will be conducted.

The National Transportation Safety Board has already launched an investigation into the incident and noted that the helicopter did not have flight data recorders or in-flight cameras installed.

The victims included a family of five from Spain, who lost their lives when the helicopter went down on Thursday.

They were identified as Agustin Escobar, 49; Mercè Camprubí Montal, 39; and their children—Victor, 4; Mercedes, 8; and Agustin, 10. The pilot, Seankese Johnson, aged 36, was a former U.S. Navy service member and had earned his commercial pilot certification in 2023, accumulating over 800 hours of flight experience.
