In a bid to uplift rural women and strengthen community development, the Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity and Development Initiative has launched a soft skills acquisition programme for 200 women in Bauchi State.

Explaining the vision behind the initiative, the NGO’s Bauchi State representative, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Akuyam, said the training was part of ongoing efforts to address the social and economic challenges facing northern Nigeria.

“The organisation believes that empowering women and promoting peace and unity are essential for the development of the region,” he stated. He noted that insecurity has deeply affected citizens’ lives, making empowerment a critical pathway to stability.

According to Akuyam, the programme is divided into two batches of 100 women each from Bauchi Local Government Area. It is designed to equip participants with practical skills that will improve their economic status, promote self-reliance, and, in turn, foster sustainable peace and development

Speaking further, the State Women Leader, Sa’adatu Aminu Yahaya, stressed that the project is a neutral and inclusive effort focused on transforming lives across the North.

“This programme is aimed at improving the living conditions of our people. I urge all beneficiaries to make the best use of this opportunity, change their lives for the better, and extend the benefits to others,” she urged.

The two-week training will cover a range of skills including the production of air fresheners, liquid soap, milk candy, locally made ready-to-use food (“turn brown food”), and perfumes. Each batch of 100 participants will undergo practical sessions led by experienced instructors who will guide them step by step through the process.

The Initiative has also partnered with Antanzil and Prestige International Schools to deliver the workshops. With these partnerships, the organisation expressed confidence that the programme will have a lasting impact on the women and their communities.
