The Federal University of Technology, Minna, has achieved a remarkable milestone with 119 students earning first-class degrees out of 5,826 graduates in the 2023-2024 academic session. This accomplishment was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Kuta, during a pre-convocation media briefing.

According to Kuta, the graduating class comprises 4,955 undergraduates, 632 Masters graduates, 105 postgraduate diplomas, and 124 PhD recipients. The undergraduate degrees are categorized into classes, with 1,431 students earning 2nd Class Upper, 2,341 earning Second Class Lower, 972 earning Third Class, and 92 earning Pass degrees.

Kuta emphasized that the university tradition allows graduates to collect original copies of their certificates and student transcripts immediately after the convocation ceremony.

Under Kuta’s leadership, the university has introduced 13 new academic programs aligned with contemporary societal needs and global competitiveness. These programs, endorsed by the National Universities Commission (NUC), include data software, software engineering, public health, forestry and wildlife technology, and others.

To commemorate the convocation ceremony, the university will host a scientific research exhibition starting January 30 at the Suleiman Kumo convocation square. Additionally, the university will commission completed projects, including the central workshop and foundry complex, an architectural studio, and a new hostel funded by TETFUND.

As Kuta noted, “To separate the grains from the chaff, the undergraduate degree is categorised into classes.” He also highlighted the university’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge education, saying, “The university has introduced 13 academic programs that align with contemporary societal needs and global competitiveness.” “The programs endorsed by the NUC are data software, software engineering, public health, forestry, and wildlife technology. Others are forensic science, industrial mathematics, metrology, interior design, landscape architecture, food engineering, human nutrition and dietetics, and agribusiness,” he said.

As part of activities to commemorate this year’s convocation ceremony, the institution will hold a scientific research exhibition from Thursday, January 30, at the Suleiman Kumo convocation square at the main campus. Similarly, the university will commission some completed projects, including the central workshop and foundry complex, an architectural studio, and a new hostel funded by TETFUND.

Kuta expressed his pride in the achievements of the university, stating that the institution remains committed to delivering high-quality education and fostering innovation. The convocation ceremony is expected to be a grand celebration of academic excellence, with dignitaries, alumni, and friends of the university in attendance.
