The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Apapa Command has made a significant contribution to the Federal Government’s coffers, generating approximately N1.094 trillion in revenue over the past five months. This achievement was disclosed by the Area Controller, Apapa Command, NCS, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, while parading seizures of contraband worth over N3.2 billion made at the port.

“We have so far generated N1.094 trillion as of May 21, 2025,” Olomu said, expressing optimism that the command would surpass its revenue target for 2025. “This collection confirms our trajectory and laudable antecedent of meeting and surpassing our target. Like we’ve done before, we are ready to do better this year.”

The Customs boss warned that officers of the command are vigilant and prepared to uncover concealments and effect seizures or arrests where necessary. He highlighted the command’s recent seizures, including five containers of cosmetics, used clothing, and codeine syrup worth N3.247 billion.

“As a result of our painstaking efforts, we recently uncovered six containers with prohibited items, mostly unregistered pharmaceuticals,” Olomu said. “Others were cosmetics, used clothing, and two vehicles illegally imported into the country. These seizures are worth a DPV of N3.247 billion.”

Notably, the command intercepted two vehicles stolen from Canada, which were imported into Nigeria through the Apapa seaport. The vehicles, a 2024 model Lexus and a 2023 Lexus RX 350, were falsely declared as food items.

Olomu detailed some of the seizures, saying, “Container No. SUDU 8685733 (40FT) was found to contain 1,698 RTPL CSC cough syrup with codeine concealed in 202 packages of water closet. Container No. MRSU 4846204 (40FT) was found to contain 1,690 cartons of codeine syrup concealed in the toilet seat. The two seizures have a street value of N2.7 billion.”

The Customs boss emphasised the service’s commitment to facilitating trade, collecting revenue, and protecting the Nigerian people from dangerous imports that are injurious to public health and well-being.
