The Nigerian Federal Government has declared that the cost of obtaining a Nigerian passport will be increased.
DCI The Nigeria Immigration Service’s (NIS) spokesman, Kenneth Udo, revealed this information in a statement on Wednesday and stated that the new fee would take effect on September 1, 2024.
He continued by saying that the action was a part of the attempts to preserve the integrity and quality of the standard Nigerian passport.
The statement claims that the previously N35,000 fee for a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity will now be N50,000.
Similarly, starting on September 1, a 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity that was formerly priced at N70,000 would only cost N100,000.
“However, the fees remain unchanged in Diaspora,” he said.
Regretful for whatever inconvenience this development may have caused potential applicants, the NIS pledged to its citizens that it would always be transparent and provide high-quality services.
