The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has voiced deep concern over the rising conflict between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel.
In a statement released on Saturday by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the ministry in Abuja, the Nigerian government condemned the ongoing violence and called on both nations to show maximum restraint in order to safeguard peace both in the region and globally.
Nigeria condemns Israel’s preemptive strike on Iran that has led to an escalation of hostilities between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel, marked by sustained missile and aerial exchanges across both territories.”
The ministry emphasized that ongoing retaliatory attacks not only endanger innocent civilians but could also destabilize the Middle East even further, posing a serious threat to global peace and economic progress.
“As a nation deeply committed to the principles of peaceful coexistence, non-aggression, and multilateral diplomacy, Nigeria calls on all involved to prioritise dialogue over confrontation.” It said
Additionally, the statement urged the global community particularly the United Nations Security Council to step up efforts to achieve immediate de-escalation and create avenues for meaningful dialogue between the parties.
It also stressed that military responses cannot replace the need for negotiation, asserting that sustainable peace can only be reached through diplomacy, mutual understanding, and respect for international legal norms.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Nigeria’s readiness to support any sincere efforts that aim to reduce tensions and encourage lasting peace in the region.
