Nigerian govt deploys armoured vehicles to combat insecurity in Kebbi

The Federal Government has deployed armoured personnel carriers (APCs) to Kebbi State as part of efforts to reinforce security and curb the threat of banditry.

Governor Nasir Idris disclosed this development while reviewing the newly arrived APCs at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

He explained that the state has been experiencing repeated assaults from bandits who infiltrate from Zamfara and Niger States, carry out attacks, and then retreat to their base camps. According to the governor, the arrival of the APCs is expected to strengthen the defense of affected areas and safeguard citizens and their property.

“I thank President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, and other security heads for this timely response to protect the people of Kebbi,” Governor Idris said.

He further reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing ongoing support to the families of fallen security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

In his remarks, Lieutenant Colonel M. S. Saleh, commander of the 223 Light Tank Battalion in Zuru, officially handed over the military vehicles to the governor and expressed gratitude to both the federal and state governments for their continued partnership.

He also called on residents to collaborate with security forces by offering reliable information to help identify criminal hideouts and prevent militant groups from establishing a presence in local areas.
