All Point of Sale (POS) businesses in Nigeria must be properly registered with the Federal Government’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) or risk being shut down immediately beginning on January 1, 2026.
Security authorities across will seize unregistered point-of-sale machines and shut down their operators, the agency warned in a statement on Saturday.
The statement states that security agencies will enforce nationwide compliance and that no POS operator will be permitted to operate without CAC registration.
It further stated that the CAC has noticed an increase in POS operators operating unregistered, in violation of the CBN Agent Banking Regulations and CAMA 2020.
The statement emphasized that this careless approach, which is frequently made possible by certain fintech firms, endangers Nigeria’s financial system and the investments of its inhabitants.
“Unregistered POS terminals will be seized or shut down by security officials
“Fintechs enabling illegal operations will be placed on a watchlist and reported to the CBN. All operators are advised to regularize immediately. Compliance is mandatory,” the statement said.
