Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has approved a request from the federal government allowing its witnesses to testify anonymously in the terrorism trial involving Nnamdi Kanu, a pro-Biafra activist.
The ruling was delivered on Tuesday following an ex-parte motion submitted by Chief Adegboyega Solomon, SAN, the government’s lead counsel.
During the hearing, Solomon argued that keeping the witnesses’ identities confidential was necessary to ensure their safety, given the nature of the terrorism-related charges against Kanu.
He emphasized the importance of concealing the witnesses’ names from the public, citing overall security concerns.
Since Kanu’s legal representative, Kanu Agabi SAN, did not oppose the motion, the judge approved the request.
In response, Agabi asked that the government extend the same level of consideration when it comes time to hear Kanu’s bail application.
As of the time this report was compiled, the government had begun presenting its case, with its first witness identified only as PWAAA already giving testimony.
