According to the Nigerian military, wanted terrorist leader Bello Turji is now under considerable pressure and acting frantically due to heightened operations by security forces targeting criminal organizations in the North-West.

This was disclosed on Wednesday by Major General Warrah Idris, the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, while conversing with defence reporters during a tour of military operations in Zamfara State.

Idris mentioned that, despite Turji’s capture not yet occurring, the military has been applying constant pressure on him via ground assaults, human intelligence operations, and advanced monitoring techniques.

He said, “Based on the most current intelligence received, Bello Turji and others are currently in confusion and panic because of the intensity of our ongoing operations. They are relocating every few hours or days.”

The commander dismissed allegations that Turji governs any local authority or community, labeling these reports as terrorist propaganda.

Idris asked, “How does someone without a permanent location control an axis or a local government? I dare Bello Turji to come out and name a single local government he controls.”

He mentioned that Turji and other prominent bandit leaders, such as Gwaska, Ado Aleru, and Dogo Gide, are under close surveillance throughout the region.

According to him, “All things being equal, Bello Turji will soon be history in the North-West. Leaders of these armed groups are being tracked through all available intelligence platforms.”

Idris refuted claims that the military intends to release 70 bandits, stating that such assertions lack official confirmation.

He said, “We have not received any circular, letter or formal communication regarding the release of 70 terrorists. What we are hearing are rumours, and we consider them fake news.”

He cautioned the public about disseminating information that has not been verified, pointing out that false reports—some of which are produced by artificial intelligence—are increasingly frequent.

Regarding cross-border security, the commander stated that Nigeria has enhanced intelligence collaboration with neighboring nations, including Niger and Benin Republic, in order to prevent the movement of armed groups such as the Lakurawa terrorists.

He revealed that during military operations in the Kamba area last month, several Lakurawa fighters were killed and weapons and motorcycles were recovered.

Idris assured Nigerians that the military will persist in its battle against banditry and terrorism, emphasizing that challenges are managed through appropriate military channels.

He said, “We are ready to work, get more work and look for more work,” expressing confidence that ongoing operations will succeed.
