Well-known Nigerian rapper Erigga has sparked discussion online with his recent remarks about the romantic expectations of Nigerian women.
In his view, many women in the country engage in relationships primarily for financial gain rather than emotional connection.
He argued that, for a lot of Nigerian women, romance is equated with receiving money, and expressions of love are often measured by a partner’s willingness to cover their expenses.
His comments have generated a wave of reactions across social media, with many weighing in on the rapper’s perspective.
On his X handle, the rapper wrote, “Nigerian women are not deep. They date for survival, not romance. Thus, intentional man means rich. Romance means monetary gesture.
“Love means footing their bills. What you people are doing in Nigeria, is not relationship.”
