Nigeria’s manufacturing sector is facing significant challenges due to the country’s energy crisis, marked by unreliable power supply and high electricity tariffs. However, the Director General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Segun Ajayi-Kadir, believes that the Dangote Refinery’s free fuel distribution initiative will help alleviate some of these challenges.

For further information, read more details here

The refinery’s free fuel distribution initiative is expected to eliminate profiteering middlemen and transporters, reducing costs for manufacturers. According to Ajayi-Kadir, “The fact that you can now eliminate the cost of distribution, which has been a major issue. The middlemen were just milking Nigerians and making it impossible for them to reach far-flung places.

The success of the Dangote Refinery highlights the importance of private sector investment in driving economic growth. Ajayi-Kadir noted, “The Dangote phenomenon… draws attention that private sector investment is key and that the government has no business in doing business.” He believes that the government should focus on creating an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive, rather than being directly involved in business. “The government should just create an enabling environment and allow the private sector to thrive.”

The refinery has helped Nigeria become a net exporter of petroleum products, reducing the country’s reliance on imports and shielding it from international price shocks. Ajayi-Kadir added, “With the coming of Dangote, we have seen that we have resumed as net exporters of petroleum products.”

The Dangote Refinery’s efficient and reliable supply chain is expected to bring down the cost of production and create energy resilience. According to Ajayi-Kadir, “As it is now, we are likely to continue to pay less for fuel, while internationally, the price of petroleum products is going up. And that is the only way you can insulate the economy, create energy resilience, and ensure that we bring down the cost of production.
