Abakaliki FC have officially confirmed their participation in the upcoming 2025–26 season of the Nigeria National League (NNL).

The club, nicknamed the Rice Boys, secured a spot in the country’s second-tier football league after acquiring a promotion slot from Hammola FC.

Abakaliki FC had previously been relegated to the Nationwide League One (NLO) following their performance last season.

“Abakaliki FC’s NNL status have just been confirmed for the 2025–26 season,” said the club’s media officer, Chukwuma Ogbonna-Torchlight.

The team gained national attention during the last campaign for their strong showing in the 2025 President Federation Cup, where they reached the final.

They ended the tournament as runners-up after a narrow 4-3 penalty shootout loss to top-tier side Kwara United of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
