Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has issued a firm warning to contractors working on state projects, making it clear that his administration will not accept poor-quality work, regardless of any personal ties or affiliations.

He gave the caution on Wednesday upon his return from Morocco, where he had received the African Governor of the Year award.

Instead of heading straight to the Government House, the Governor opted for an impromptu tour of various project sites around Kano, reflecting his direct and involved approach to governance.

His first stop was the ongoing road construction near the airport, which he visited immediately after leaving the airport premises.

Unimpressed by parts of the project, he ordered that the road be upgraded to meet international standards, both in terms of engineering quality and visual appeal.

“The road should look smooth and attain to global best practices. There should be green at both sides,” the Governor stated.

He made it clear that contractors must meet the expectations of his administration, which is anchored on quality, accountability, and excellence.

“I trust this company,” he said while addressing contractors at the airport roundabout, “but I must stress that I don’t tolerate any compromise on quality contractors must meet standards, regardless of how close you are to me.”

The Governor then proceeded to the Lodge Road roundabout, where he instructed that the central area be landscaped and enhanced, especially around the street lights.

He shared a clear vision for improving the urban environment, giving specific orders for environmental upgrades.

“You have to grow trees at six meters interval, and in between should be adorned with beautiful grasses towards the street lights,” he directed.

Additionally, he proposed the addition of a fountain in the middle of the roundabout to boost its aesthetic appeal.

Governor Yusuf also made a stop to inspect a mosque that’s currently under construction, offering further guidance on the building’s design and the surrounding area’s layout.
