Veteran actress and filmmaker, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has called for systemic changes in Nigeria’s film industry, Nollywood.

With a career spanning over three decades in the Nigerian movie scene, she shared her thoughts in a widely discussed Instagram post on Saturday.

Reflecting on her experiences working in both Nollywood and Hollywood, Omotola pointed out a significant gap—particularly in the area of royalty payments.

She voiced concern about the struggles faced by actors in Nigeria, especially the lack of residual income from past projects.

In contrast, she noted that in Hollywood, she continues to earn monthly residuals from just two productions she took part in over the past four years.

“Just four years in Hollywood. Two test projects, monthly residuals,” she said.

While sharing an envelope received from SAG-AFTRA, an American union for films and media professionals, the actress said whereas, in “30years in Nollywood, with over 310 projects, no residuals. #NollywoodNeedsStructure and #UnlearntoRelearn”.
