The decision by Works Minister Engr. Dave Umahi to re-award the revoked portion of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway to a new company has received support from Northern Professionals.

According to report, a price disagreement and completion schedule led to the Federal Government, acting through the Ministry of Works, canceling a portion of the Julius Berger Construction Company’s contract for the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

Northern Professionals’ Chairman and Secretary, Dr. Isa Samaila Getso and Comrade Ibrahim Mohammad Geidam, responded in a statement on Tuesday, expressing their happiness over the contract’s re-award and claiming that the early concerns about potential delays and abandonment had now been dispelled.

The statement stated that it is admirable that the road contract for such a crucial route connecting northern states was re-awarded after Julius Berger’s failure to perform on the agreed-upon deadline.

“We were really disturbed after the contract was terminated. But today, as a mark of appreciation, we want to unequivocally thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking proactive action to resume work and complete the Abuja-Kaduna road.

“The truth is that we were highly bittered and unsettled when the news filtered that the contract handled by a renowned contractor, Julius Berger, was revoked. But with the recent decision, we are happy that the road, which had become a death trap, will now be completed,” it said.

The statement also stated that the road contract’s cancellation serves as a warning to other contractors that the federal government would no longer accept needless delays in contract fulfillment that are justified by variances and growing material costs.
